Plushenko: Russians’ disqualification negatively impacts world figure skating
Two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko assessed the impact of the Russians’ suspension on world figure skating. His words are reported by TASS.
In his opinion, there is a negative impact. He recalled that at the recent European Championships, not a single skater performed a triple axel or a quadruple jump.
“My colleagues from Canada, from America, from Switzerland write: “Finally, the Russians are gone, because it was hard with them.” Yes, it was hard, Russian athletes are moving figure skating forward,” noted Plushenko.
Russian figure skaters were banned from competing in tournaments under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) in March 2022. The last major competition for domestic athletes was the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
