Russian Paralympians given advice on communicating with Ukrainians

MP Zhurova urged Russians not to provoke Ukrainians at the Paralympics

Russian athletes at the Paralympic Games should communicate with their Ukrainian colleagues if they are accommodating, but they should not pester them with conversations, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova recommended in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“We can hardly expect any movement towards us from Ukrainian athletes – they simply cannot afford it. They will be condemned for such steps, serious pressure will begin. Ours will not be condemned, but it is different for Ukrainians,” said Zhurova.

In her opinion, Russian Paralympians should communicate with Ukrainian athletes only if they themselves are willing to help, but they should not even be the first to make friendly contact.

“You shouldn’t pester them with conversations, because in this case it will only provoke aggression: Ukrainian athletes will step aside, stay away from ours, because that’s what they recommend,” Zhurova explained.

Earlier, Russian canoeist Alexey Korovashkov said that he had crossed paths with Ukrainian athletes several times at the Olympics. Both he and his Ukrainian colleagues were forced to look down and walk past them so as not to accidentally provoke a conflict.
