Russian Amina Abakarova has been expelled from the Dagestan Chess Federation. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the press service of the republic’s Ministry of Sports.

Earlier, the athlete was temporarily suspended from competitions under the auspices of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF). They admitted that the disqualification could become lifelong.

On August 7, it was reported that during the Dagestan championship, Abakarova tried to poison another participant, Umayganat Osmanova. Before the match, the chess player spilled a substance, presumably mercury, near her opponent’s board. As a result, she felt ill, and an ambulance was called for her.

The police detained the suspect. According to preliminary information, the chess player decided to poison herself in order to knock her opponent out of the tournament. Abakarova is the champion of the North Caucasus Federal District in chess.
