Deputy Svischev called the Paris Olympics one of the worst in history
The recently concluded Summer Olympics in Paris were one of the worst in history, according to State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he assessed the results of the past competitions, as well as the level of organization of the events.
“Nothing good. Of course, as citizens of Russia, we hoped to see our athletes. But for a far-fetched reason, on the basis of nationality, our athletes were illegally not allowed to participate under the Russian flag, only a small part of our guys under a neutral flag were able to participate in these competitions. It is difficult to call this the Olympics, because everyone is used to the Olympic Games being a sports festival, a grand competition for which athletes from all over the world prepare. Here, for some reason, someone decided that Russia and Belarus cannot participate. My attitude in terms of attitude towards Russia is, of course, negative,” the parliamentarian said.
The deputy also criticized the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games, the insufficient preparation of the Seine River for the athletes’ performance in water sports, as well as the conditions of accommodation for the athletes themselves in the Olympic village.
For the athletes, the fans and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) itself, these are some of the worst Games in history.

The XXXIII Summer Olympic Games were held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. The closing ceremony was held at the Stade de France with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron and IOC President Thomas Bach.
The US team won the medal count. American athletes won 126 medals, including 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze. The team from China came in second with 91 medals, including 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze. Japan rounded out the top three with 45 medals – 20 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze.
Russian athletes, who competed under a neutral flag, won only one award. Tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider won silver in women’s doubles.
