Rodnina: Our absence from the 2024 Olympics will affect Russian sports
Three-time Olympic figure skating champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina named the consequences of Russians missing the 2024 Olympic Games. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
In her opinion, this will have a negative impact on Russian sports. “We have lost our guidelines and methods. The Olympics are also an exchange of information. There you can see where the sport is developing, what trends there are and what rules are changing,” she explained.
At the same time, Rodnina emphasized that this cannot be called degradation. “We are trying to create favorable conditions for current athletes so that the guys can both compete and earn money. And if we talk about the lag of Russian sports, then we have nothing to compare it with now,” she noted.
There were 15 Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games. They competed under a neutral flag. Of them, only tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider were able to win a medal, coming in second in the women’s doubles.
