Tamirat Tola Wins Marathon Gold With Olympic Record At 2024 Games
Ethiopian runner Tamirat Tola won the marathon gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The event was broadcast live on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) website.
The athlete covered the distance of 42 kilometers 195 meters in two hours, six minutes and 26 seconds. He broke the Olympic record of Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru (2:06.32). The silver medal went to Belgian Abdi Bashir (21 seconds behind). Bronze went to Kenyan Benson Kipruto.
Tola became an Olympic champion for the first time. In addition, the athlete won bronze at the 2016 Olympics in the 10,000-meter race, gold and silver at the world championships in the marathon.
The Olympic Games in Paris will last until August 11. Russian athletes competed in neutral status and won one silver medal in tennis.
