The Belgian Ghekiere wins in Le Grand-Bornand and the Polish Niewiadoma maintains the lead

The Belgian cyclist Justine Ghekiere (AG Insurance-Soudal) won the seventh and penultimate stage of the Tour de France on Saturday between Champagnole and Le Grand-Bornand over 166.4 kilometres, a day of five mountain passes, one of them a first category climb, while the Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-Sram) barely lost her lead by a few seconds.
Ghekiere arrived alone and showing off his white jersey with red polka dots of mountain leader to the summit finish at Le Grand-Bornand, one of the two second-category climbs (8.2 km at 4.7%) in the stage. The Belgian won ahead of Frenchwoman Maeva Squiban (Arkea-B&B Hotels) and Dutchwoman Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime), second and third respectively.
Nieviadoma was able to keep the yellow leader’s jersey of the race for another day, after he took it with his second place in the fifth stage. Now, he enjoys 27 seconds ahead of the second classified, Dutch Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck), and of 37 on French Cédrine Kerbaol (Ceratizit-WNT), third overall. Despite her third place in the stage, Vollering is eighth, 1:45 behind the Pole.
He The Women’s Tour de France will conclude this Sunday with the dispute of its eighth and final stage, between Le Grand-Bornand and the Alpe d’Huezalso high mountain, with 149.9 kilometers and 3,750 meters of accumulated positive gradient, with everything to be decided.
