On this Saturday afternoon, the Porto sought a heroic victory against the Sportingby 4 to 3, and won the Portuguese Super Cup. The Lisbon club started the game with full throttle and opened a 3 to 0 lead at the Aveiro Municipal Stadium. However, with two goals from Galeno and one from Nico González, Porto recovered and managed a heroic draw. In extra time, Iván Jaime closed the score.
Porto thus wins the Portuguese Super Cup title again, the 24th in the club’s history. Sporting, champions for the last time in 2021, remain with nine trophies together with Benfica.
In the first round of the Portuguese Championship, Sporting will return to the pitch next Friday, at 4:15 pm (Brasília time), to face Rio Ave, at the José Alvalade Stadium. On the other side, Porto will face Gil Vicente, at the Estádio do Dragão, on Saturday, at 4:30 pm.
Sporting opened the scoring in the 6th minute of the first half. From the left, Pedro Gonçalves sent the ball into the area and Gonçalo Inácio rose higher than the Porto defense to head the ball into the back of the net.
Three minutes later, at 9 minutes, Sporting doubled their lead. Viktor Gyokeres received the ball on the left, beat the Porto players in a race, invaded the area and crossed back. Pedro Gonçalves appeared and finished past Diogo Costa, who touched the ball but was unable to prevent the goal.
The Lisbon club remained in the attacking half and scored the third goal of the match in the 24th minute. Viktor Gyokeres received the ball inside the penalty area, beat the defenders and crossed. The ball went past Porto’s defense and reached Giovany Quenda who, unmarked, struck with his left foot and scored past Diogo Costa.

Shortly after, in the 28th minute, Porto reduced the deficit with a Brazilian goal. Galeno received a pass, took advantage of a mistake by Sporting’s defense, and came face to face with Vladan Kovacevic’s goal. The player, therefore, controlled the ball and beat the goalkeeper.
In the 8th minute of the second half, Porto scored their second goal of the match. Gonçalo Borges crossed into the area from the right and Nico González received the ball on the penalty spot and finished powerfully, across goal, into the right corner of Vladan Kovacevic’s goal.

The incredible equalizer came two minutes later, in the 10th minute. Galeno received a low pass from Stephen Eustáquio in the penalty area and made it all even in Aveiro.
The winning goal came in extra time, 6 minutes into the first half. Iván Jaime, from outside the area, shot past the defender and the ball went over the Lisbon team’s goalkeeper.
