Bolivian defender Leonardo Zabala, formerSantoswas announced this Wednesday by Cancún FC, from Mexico. The defender and Peixe agreed to an amicable termination last Thursday, when the 22-year-old athlete had already signed with the Mexican team.
After a stint in the Palmeiras youth ranks, Zabala arrived at Santos in 2021. The defender made the transition to the professional ranks at Alvinegro Praiano and even took part in some training sessions at CT Rei Pelé, but never played an official match.
Despite not having played for Santos, the defender has already been called up to represent the main team of the Bolivian National Team. In fact, in a friendly against Uzbekistan, in March 2023, he suffered a knee injury and needed to undergo surgery.
“A luxury reinforcement, coming from Santos, Brazil, with experience in the National Team, we are proud to present Leonardo Zabala”, wrote Cancún’s official profile on Instagram.
Zabala will play in the Second Division of the Mexican Championship for Cancún. In Mexican football, the Bolivian joins defender Joaquim, also formerly of Santos, who was transferred in this transfer window to Tigres, of the First Division.
