Guardiola says he hasn’t made up his mind and doesn’t rule out renewing his contract with City

Spanish manager Pep Guardiola has said he has yet to make a decision on his future as Manchester City manager. He has a contract with the team until June 2025 and had previously indicated he was “closer to leaving than staying”.

“I didn’t say I was leaving. Nine years at the same club is an eternity. I don’t rule out the possibility of extending the contract. I want to make sure it’s the right decision for the club and the players. When I decide, I’ll speak to the CEO and the sporting director. I want to start the season, see how everything goes and how connected we are. Then we’ll see,” Guardiola explained in a press conference held this Saturday.

Having won the Premier League for the first time in a row last season, Guardiola is undoubtedly the greatest manager in Manchester City’s history. Since his arrival in 2016, the team has established a dynasty in England, with six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups, as well as the Champions League and Club World Cup trophies, which were won in 2023.

Manchester City have been shy in the transfer market so far, having only signed Brazilian Savinho from Girona. Pep will rely on his multi-champion squad to try to defend another English title, also aiming for an unprecedented fifth title.

After losing to Celtic 4-3 in the first pre-season game, City will take to the field this Saturday, at 7pm (Brasília time), to face Milan, at Yankee Stadium, in New York.
