Men’s Olympic triathlon postponed due to dirty Seine

The men’s triathlon competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris has been postponed. This was reported on the website of the International Triathlon Union (World Triathlon).

The competition was scheduled for July 30. However, due to the fact that the water quality in the Seine remains unsatisfactory, the men will start on July 31 at 10:45 (Paris time). The women are scheduled to start on the same day at 8:00.

Earlier, two pre-race training sessions were cancelled due to the dirty Seine. However, the organisers promised that the water quality would return to an acceptable level before the start of the competition.

On July 28, the leader of the Patriots party, Florian Philippot, said that the rain that fell in Paris on July 26-27 had made the authorities’ efforts to clean the Seine in vain. The politician was outraged that 1.4 billion euros had been spent on cleaning the river for this swim. However, due to the rain and pollution of the river, sporting events have been postponed.
