Valuev said that none of the Russian leaders went to the 2024 Olympics
State Duma deputy and former world boxing champion Nikolai Valuev explained the poor results of Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Valuev said that none of the leaders went to the Olympic Games. “Whether to go just for the sake of participating – let’s leave that on the conscience of those athletes who went to the Olympics,” he said, adding that it would be difficult for athletes to return to Russia amid negative public perception.
Earlier, tennis players Pavel Kotov, Mirra Andreeva and Ekaterina Aleksandrova were eliminated from the Olympics in singles. Swimmer Evgeny Somov failed to reach the final in the 100-meter breaststroke, and cyclist Tamara Dronova finished in 21st place in the individual start race.
The Olympic Games will last until August 11. A total of 15 Russians and 17 Belarusians will compete in Paris as neutrals.
