St. Petersburg’s Zenit scored a crushing victory over Kazan’s Rubin in the second round of the Russian Premier League (RPL), a Lenta.ru correspondent reports.
The match took place on Saturday, July 27, at the Ak Bars Arena stadium and ended with a score of 4:0 in favor of the guests. In the 36th minute, midfielder Maxim Glushenkov opened the scoring. In the 44th minute, forward Mateo Cassierra increased the team’s advantage by converting a penalty. In the 55th minute, midfielder Pedro scored another goal. In the second minute of added time to the second half, forward Wilzon Isidore set the final score.
Last season, Zenit won the Russian championship. Rubin was in eighth place in the standings.
In the next round, Zenit will host Rostov, and Rubin will host Khimki from the Moscow region. Both matches will take place on August 3.
