Head of the 2024 Games Organizing Committee Estangue: Olympic Flame Will Not Burn in Torch
The head of the 2024 Games organizing committee, Tony Estangue, admitted that the Olympic flame will not burn in the main torch in Paris. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
Estangue explained that they did not want carbon emissions to be released into the atmosphere throughout the Olympics. “One of the ideas of our Games is to have minimal pollution. We used 200 spray lamps in the torch, this is CO2 together with water vaporizers. Real gas will not be burning during the Games,” he emphasized.

At the opening ceremony on July 26, three-time Olympic champions Teddy Riner and Marie-Josée Perec lit the 2024 Games flame. The cauldron was then launched on a hot air balloon in memory of its inventors, the Montgolfier brothers.
The Olympic Games will last until August 11. The winners and runners-up will receive medals that contain a metal fragment taken from the Eiffel Tower.
