Cruzeiro, who has just been acquired by former footballer Ronaldo Nazario, fired coach Vanderlei Luxemburg on Tuesday, who has led the Brazilian team and Real Madrid, among many other positions.

“In order to adapt the accounts to the budgetary reality of the club, the directive has been oriented not to renew the contract of the current technical commission,” the Belo Horizonte team reported in a note, one of the most traditional in Brazilian football but which plays in the Second Division since 2019.

His dismissal has been announced just ten days after Ronaldo Nazario became the majority shareholder of the club, where he began the brilliant professional career that ended in 2011 in 1992.

According to Cruzeiro, which faces a very serious financial crisis, Ronaldo will disburse 400 million reais (about $ 72 million) for 90% of the shares of the entity, now converted into a commercial corporation.

Ronaldo, who is also the majority shareholder of Spanish Valladolid, acknowledged when confirming the operation that he would have “a lot of work ahead of him,” especially to put order in the finances of Cruzeiro, whose debts are calculated in excess of $ 300 million. (D)
