2020 Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Zaurbek Sidakov spoke about the attitude of his US rivals to the absence of Russians at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He spoke out on the Vyacheslav Abdusalamov YouTube channel.
According to him, the Americans want to compete with the Russians. “They even said that they wrote letters about our admission. Well done. They, on the contrary, are for our team to perform. But what can you do,” Sidakov added.
Russian wrestlers were admitted to international competitions in neutral status and participated in the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games. They won 16 out of 18 possible tickets, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) admitted 14 wrestlers representing the country to the games.
On July 6, the Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) announced that the national team representatives would refuse to participate in the Olympics. They noted that the Russian side does not accept the unsportsmanlike principle of selection for the Games.
