IOC: Responsibility for Olympics broadcasts in Russia lies with Telesport Group
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has disclaimed responsibility for broadcasting the 2024 Olympic Games in Russia. RIA Novosti cites the organization’s comment.
“Since the Tokyo Olympics, the IOC has had an agreement with the sports rights agency Telesport Group, which acquired media rights in Russia, including the broadcast of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,” the IOC said. Thus, it is not the IOC that is responsible for sublicensing media rights to broadcasters in Russia, but Telesport Group.
It was previously reported that Russian residents would be able to watch the Games on the IOC website. However, information about the broadcasts was later removed.
Earlier it was reported that Russian TV channels would not broadcast the Olympics for the first time in 40 years. This is due to the fact that domestic athletes will participate in the competitions under a neutral flag.
