IOC removes International Boxing Association from list of recognized federations
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided during its session in Paris to exclude the International Boxing Association (IBA) from the list of recognized sports federations. This was reported on the IOC website.
The event also approved a name change for the International Swimming Federation (FINA). It will now officially be known as World Aquatics.
In June 2023, IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper announced that the committee would withdraw recognition from the IBA. The IOC then announced that it would ban athletes representing IBA member federations from participating in the 2028 Olympics. The organization is headed by Russian Umar Kremlev.
In October 2022, the IBA admitted Russian and Belarusian boxers to competitions under its auspices. At the same time, representatives of the countries were allowed to compete with their flag and anthem.
