Benfica announced this Tuesday that Jorge Jesus is no longer the team’s coach. In the statement released, the club said it “has reached a common agreement” for the departure of the commander.
Jesus is now free on the market. Before, the coach had already met with the board and made his position “available”. Due to internal problems and poor results, the technician did not want to continue the work.
In a disagreement in the 3-0 loss to Porto, in the Portuguese Cup, Jorge pushed Benfica captain Pizzi out of the way and imposed a terrible atmosphere on the squad. Thus, the training session for this second was postponed due to complications from the command and will be held in the afternoon.
Since July 2020 in command of the Portuguese team, Jorge Jesus will be replaced by Nélson Veríssimo, coach of Benfica B. He will be the interim commander until the end of the season.
