Zenit Denies Government Influence on Serbian Footballer’s Transfer

Zenit CEO Medvedev denies government’s suspension of Ilic’s transfer

Chairman of the board of St. Petersburg’s Zenit Alexander Medvedev assessed the information that the transfer of Serbian footballer Ivan Ilic from Torino was on the verge of failure. His words are quoted by RBC.

Medvedev denied the influence of the Russian government on the player’s transfer.[Информация] does not correspond to reality. There is nothing but sporting and financial factors and conditions,” the head of the blue-white-blues said, adding that there are 40 days left until the transfer window closes.

Earlier, the Italian press reported that the transfer was suspended by the Russian government due to the high cost of the player. The Kremlin believed that such a large deal could attract unnecessary attention to the country.

23-year-old Ilic has been playing for Torino since the winter of 2023. In the completed Serie A season, the Serbian footballer took part in 31 matches, scoring three goals and making two assists.
