Belgium vs Israel Nations League match to be played in Hungary for security reasons

The match between Belgium and Israel in the first round of the Nations League, which was to be played in September on Belgian territory, will be held in Debrecen, Hungary, and behind closed doors, as announced this Friday (19) by the Belgian federation.

“As no local administration in Belgium considered it possible to organize the Red Devils’ match against Israel on September 6, the Belgian Football Association sought a solution abroad,” the federation explained in a statement.

On June 19, the city of Brussels announced that the match would not be played at the King Baudouin Stadium.

Authorities considered it “impossible to organize this game because it is a very high risk” for the city due to tensions from the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Other Belgian cities also refused to host this match.
