Deputy Zhurova allowed provocations against Russian athletes at the Olympics
There are certain risks of provocations against Russian athletes at the Olympics by other participants, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova admitted in a conversation with Lenta.ru. At the same time, according to her, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is negotiating with athletes to explain to them the inadmissibility of such actions.
“I hope there won’t be any serious provocations – it’s not that easy to do them,” the politician noted. “Unless the Ukrainians come up with something, other foreigners – unlikely. And the Ukrainians can run away from the podium, refuse to shake hands, and so on. Someone can shout from the stands.”
Zhurova also added that Russian athletes have already become accustomed to such unfriendly actions. In addition, the IOC will probably suppress such actions.
“Ukraine is still unhappy that the IOC took such a step and allowed Russians to participate in the Olympics even in such a small format. But the Olympic Committee is negotiating with the athletes so that they do not organize provocations,” the MP said.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee included 15 athletes in the final list of Russian participants in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. Seven tennis players, a trampoline jumper, a swimmer, three cyclists, and three canoeists have been admitted to the Games.
