IOC: Russian athletes to miss 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony
Russian athletes will miss the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This was reported to Match TV by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“AIN (Individual Neutral Athletes) will not participate in the parade of delegations during the opening ceremony, as they are individual athletes. However, they will be given the opportunity to experience the event,” the IOC said. The organization noted that this scenario was previously used for independent participants from the former Yugoslavia at the 1992 Barcelona Games.
The decision on the participation of Russians in the closing ceremony of the Olympics will be made later. The IOC reminded that it is not teams that take part in it, but all the athletes together.
On July 18, the final list of Russians admitted to the Olympic Games was announced. The following will compete with AIN status: Tamara Dronova, Alena Ivanchenko, Gleb Syritsa (all cycling), Angela Bladtseva (trampoline), Daniil Medvedev, Roman Safiullin, Ekaterina Aleksandrova, Mirra Andreeva, Pavel Kotov, Diana Schneider, Elena Vesnina (all tennis), Zakhar Petrov, Alexey Korovashkov, Olesya Romasenko (all canoeing) and Evgeny Somov (swimming).
