Hockey club SKA will not play at SKA Arena in the 2024/2025 season
The SKA hockey club will not play at the SKA Arena in the 2024/2025 season of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). This was reported on the club’s website.
The team will hold home matches at the Ice Palace, as it meets safety requirements. “According to experts, given the size of the SKA Arena and the complexity of its fire safety systems, it will take a long time to eliminate the shortcomings and deficiencies,” the club noted.
In early June 2024, a fire broke out at the new stadium, which, according to rough estimates, cost around 60 billion rubles. As a result, the electronic information video board burned out, 200 square meters of stands melted and burned, as well as the plastic covering of the main arena bowl.
SKA Arena is the largest hockey stadium in the world. The first match was held there on February 11, 2024: the game between SKA and Sochi was attended by 21,481 spectators, which became a KHL record.
