De la Fuente predicts Spain will be the protagonist in the coming years

Luis de la Fuente, Spain’s coach, savored his consecration this Sunday with the conquest of the Euro 2024 against England. And, in the coach’s view, the future of the Fury is highly promising, especially as it has talented names like Rodri, Nico Willians and Lamine Yamal.

“We are happy and proud of this great group of football players and it is time to enjoy it. I think we have achieved something that was very difficult to achieve. So for us it is a moment of pure happiness and that is all we want: to enjoy it. Soon we will start thinking about the future because this is a very ambitious group that wants to win many more tournaments,” warned the coach.

Despite individual values, De la Fuente believes that the strength of the group made the difference in favor of Spain.
“I’ve always said that we have 26 wonderful players. Any one of them can play at any time. They’ve shown that when we’ve made changes. They’ve always maintained the level that’s expected of them,” he explained.

Proof that Spain were not restricted to just 11 players at Euro 2024 came in the final itself, when Zubimendi came on for maestro Rodri and did the job. “He had a fantastic second half. He’s another great player we have, so I’d like to thank him and say how lucky I am to coach this fantastic group of players,” added De la Fuente.

Spain ended their European Championship campaign with seven wins, showing that they were highly capable of winning the title. Even so, De la Fuente always kept his feet on the ground.

“I don’t think we were favorites. I just wanted my team to be in a position to compete and we did. I just want my players to keep improving. We have an incredible group. They make my job a lot easier,” he commented.
