Suárez is mysterious about his continued role in the Uruguayan national team

Uruguay finished third in the Copa America-2024in the United States, this Saturday (13), by beating Canada 4-3 on penalties, after a 2-2 draw in the 90 minutes.

Bentancur opened the scoring for the ‘Celeste’ at the Bank of America Stadium, in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the 8th minute and the Canadians turned the game around with goals from Koné in the 21st minute and Jonathan David towards the end of the match (79′).

When it looked like Canada would finish the tournament with the bronze medal, ‘El Pistolero’ Luis Suárez scored in injury time (90’+2) and took the decision to penalties.

Goalkeeper Sergio Rochet saved Ismaël Koné’s shot (Canada’s third) and Alphonso Davies hit the crossbar with the fifth, while Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Suárez converted theirs for Uruguay.

“Having spent this time with him confirms the image of a superior player, a great teammate, and he was a huge support for all of us on and off the field,” said ‘Celeste’ coach Marcelo Bielsa about Luis Suárez, who has scored 69 goals for the Uruguayan national team, of which he is the all-time top scorer.

“The level he showed in the minutes he played, on the one hand; in training, on the other; the technical level, the physical level, position him to share the starting spot in the center forward position,” he added.

Suárez was carried on the shoulders of his teammates during the celebrations. When asked if this was his farewell to the national team, the star dodged the question. “Today the important thing is to value the effort of the entire team. Today the Suárez case is left aside,” he said.
