Spain v England clash to bring Euro 2024 top scorers into showdown

The decision of the Eurocup 2024 is approaching and, with it, comes the expectation of winning a major tournament. On Sunday afternoon, Spain and England will duel for the title at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany.

There are many issues at stake for the Euro Cup final. In addition to the main objective of lifting the trophy, one issue that is still open is the competition’s top scorer. And the two top scorers of the edition will face each other in the final.

Harry Kane and Dani Olmo will face each other this Sunday. The two share the top scorer’s list in this edition of the Eurocup, both with three goals scored. Four other players also have the same record: Gakpo (Netherlands), Musiala (Germany), Mikautadze (Georgia) and Schranz (Slovakia).

However, Kane and Olmo will have one more match to decide who will take home the tournament’s golden boot. The English number 9, however, may have an advantage – he is expected to start in Gareth Southgate’s team, while the Spanish number 10 has been a reserve throughout the competition.

Harry Kane has featured in all six of England’s games so far – all as a starter. The centre-forward failed to find the net in his opening match against Serbia but scored his first goal of the Euros in the following game, a 1-1 draw with Denmark.

The English No. 9 then failed to score against Slovenia, but found the net again in the 2-1 win over Slovakia in the round of 16. Against Switzerland he was again unsuccessful, while against the Netherlands he scored the equaliser from the spot to help his side qualify for the final.

On the other side, Dani Olmo started Euro 2024 as a substitute for Spain, but whenever he came on he did very well. He started his campaign without scoring and was not even used against Italy in the second round of the group stage.

However, the Spanish attacking midfielder turned things around and provided an assist against Albania. He started contributing goals and has not stopped since: he scored in three consecutive matches – against Georgia, Germany and France – as well as providing an assist for a goal against the Germans.

In total, in five games played, Olmo had five goal participations. According to the Sofa Scorehe is the player with the most contributions to goals in this Euro, in addition to being the first with the most big chances created (three) and the second with the most successful dribbles (with 11).

With a particular clash between two top scorers, the Euro Cup could have a first-time champion or the greatest winner in its history. Spain will be looking for the fourth title to overtake Germany, while England will be looking for its first title.
