Copa América final pits the continent’s most unbeaten teams against each other

A America Cup 2024 had its two finalists defined this week. Argentina and Colombia will make the big decision and will go in search of glory this Sunday, starting at 9 pm (Brasília time), at Hard Rock Stadium, in Florida (USA).

Argentina and Colombia will face off in a unique final – the Argentines are seeking their 16th title, while the Colombians are seeking their second. The final of the competition will pit the two teams that currently have the longest unbeaten records in South American football against each other.

Coach Nestor Lorenzo’s Colombia is the team with the longest unbeaten streak on the continent. The team has not lost in two years and five months – in that period, they have played 28 games, with 22 wins and six draws.

According to platform data Sofa Scorethe Colombian team has an 85.7% success rate and has scored 55 goals, having conceded only 16. The team has also gone unscathed in 17 matches, that is, in more than half of the clashes.

Colombia have managed to return to the Copa America final after 23 years. The last time they achieved such a feat was in 2001, when the Colombians faced Mexico in the final and lifted their first and only trophy of the tournament with a 1-0 victory.

On the other side, Argentina promises to give trouble and complicate the life of the undefeated Colombia – especially because the team led by Lionel Scaloni is the current title holder and also has a relevant sequence of invincibility.

Argentina’s last defeat came eight months ago, when they were defeated by Uruguay in the South American World Cup qualifiers. They have not lost since then – they have played 10 games, with nine wins and one draw so far.

The team captained by Lionel Messi has scored 20 goals and conceded only three goals in three games, standing out for its good defensive line. Despite several missed chances, the team is also doing well in attack and has a midfield that stands out for the determination it leaves on the field.

Colombia has an inspired James Rodríguez to win the Copa América for the second time in history, while Argentina has Messi and Ángel Di María determined to lift the trophy and end their Albiceleste careers with a title.
