The Premier League announced on Monday that it had registered 103 positive cases in COVID-19 among the 20 clubs in the English first division between December 20 and 26, a record figure in that time frame since the start of the tests in 2020.
In its statement, the Premier League indicated that those 103 cases occurred among the “15,186 tests carried out among the players and coaching staff”.
The previous week, the number of positives was 90, which was already a record since 2020.
The variant omicron disrupts the development of the English championship since the beginning of December, with 15 games canceled, three of them in the Boxing Day on Sunday.
Many matches were also postponed in the three lower categories of British football.
The Premier announced that it will to players and club employees a daily antigen test and two PCR tests per week.
The leaders of the Premier League decided last week to continue with the competition. The Matches can be played if each team has 13 available outfield players and one goalkeeper. (D)
