Olympic medalist Batyrshina: Russians need to go to Paris if this is their first Olympics
Silver medalist of the 1996 Olympics, five-time world champion in rhythmic gymnastics Yana Batyrshina spoke about the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
According to the athlete, if there is an opportunity, then you should go to the Olympics. “Especially when an athlete is aiming for a medal, then you have to fight. But if a person just wants to participate, without even aiming to get into the top ten, then it is worth thinking about it,” Batyrshina noted.
Batyrshina added that she understands Olympic medalists who are not ready to compete in the Olympics again under the current conditions. She called it torture and suffering for them. “But if we talk about athletes who have never been to the Olympics, then for them this may be the first and only opportunity in their lives. I feel incredibly sorry for these people and I want to support them. On the contrary, they need to go and fight,” she concluded.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians have been admitted to the competition as individual neutral athletes. Individual representatives of tennis, cycling, trampoline jumping, kayaking, canoeing and swimming have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
Some Russian athletes refused to participate in the Games, despite receiving invitations from the International Olympic Committee. This decision was made by wrestlers and judokas.
