Peskov: Each athlete makes the decision to participate in the Olympics independently
The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov spoke about the refusal of domestic athletes to go to the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Peskov said that each athlete makes the decision to participate in the Olympics independently. “As for those who had the opportunity and did not go, each federation has its own circumstances, its own agreements, its own collective opinions, its own collective decisions, and this must be treated with respect,” the Kremlin representative added.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians have been admitted to the competition as individual neutral athletes. Individual representatives of tennis, cycling, trampoline jumping, kayaking, canoeing and swimming have confirmed their participation in the tournament.
Some Russian athletes refused to participate in the Games, despite receiving invitations from the International Olympic Committee. This decision was made by wrestlers and judokas.
