Lamine Yamal becomes youngest player to score in Euro history

Spanish striker Lamine Yamal, aged 16 years and 362 days, became the youngest player to score a goal in the history of the European Championship, when he found the net in Spain’s 2-1 semi-final victory over France in Munich on Tuesday.

Yamal surpasses the mark of 18 years and 141 days set by Swiss Johan Vonlanthen in the 2004 edition, also against France.

The young Barcelona player, accustomed to breaking precociousness records with the Catalan club, has also started to surpass records in international football.

At this Euro, he became the youngest player to play in a game at the tournament and also the youngest to make an assist for a goal.

In the game against France, when Spain needed it most, Yamal scored a stunning shot from outside the box into the top corner of goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s net to level the match after Randal Kolo Muani had opened the scoring for Les Bleus.

Just four minutes later, Dani Olmo turned the game around for the Spanish side, who now await the winner of the other semi-final, between the Netherlands and England, who face each other on Wednesday, to find out their opponent in the Euro final.
