Argentine Daniel Garnero is no longer the coach of the Paraguayan national team, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) announced on Monday, following the team’s failure in the Copa América.
“We thank Daniel Garnero and his technical team for their commitment, dedication and professionalism throughout their time working with the ‘Albirroja’. We wish him success in his future projects,” wrote the APF in a statement.

Garnero was Paraguay’s tenth coach since the end of the era of fellow Argentine Gerardo Martino, who led the country to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in their last appearance in the tournament.
The poor performance in this year’s Copa América, with three defeats in three games (including the 4-1 defeat to Brazil) and elimination in the group stage, led the APF to decide on his dismissal.
Under Garnero, who took over in September 2023, Paraguay had two wins, two draws and eight losses.
The Paraguayan team is in seventh place in the South American Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which has six direct spots and one for the play-offs.
