UEFA will not remove referee Zwayer from Euro semifinals for match-fixing
The Euro 2024 semi-final between England and the Netherlands will be officiated by German referee Felix Zwayer, the Daily Mail reports.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will not remove Zwayer from the game, despite the fact that he was previously involved in match-fixing. In 2004, the German received a cash payment of 300 euros for controversial decisions in a match where he was assistant referee Robert Hoizer. For this, Zwayer was suspended from football for six months.
In 2021, England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who played for Borussia Dortmund, criticized Zwayer’s work in a German championship game and recalled his involvement in match-fixing. For this, the footballer was fined 40 thousand euros.
The semi-final match will take place on Wednesday, July 10, and will begin at 22:00 Moscow time. Euro 2024, which is taking place in 10 cities in Germany, will last until July 14.
