Former Barcelona player Thiago Alcantara could become Hansi Flick’s new assistant at Barcelona. Despite officially announcing his retirement on Monday, Thiago and the Spanish club are negotiating for him to be one of Flick’s assistants next season.
Before retiring, Barcelona had already considered Thiago as a possible link between German Hansi Flick’s coaching staff and the Spanish club’s squad. The former player had already worked with the coach at Bayern Munich and is fluent in German and Spanish, which would help with communication between the parties on a daily basis.

According to the Catalan program “What are you playing?”Thiago and Barcelona have been negotiating for a few weeks, but the deal has not yet been finalized. If the signing of the former player is confirmed, Thiago will return to Barça after 11 years, when he left the Spanish club for Bayern Munich.
Thiago Alcântara was born in Italy and is the son of Mazinho, a Brazilian soccer star. Having spent most of his adolescence in Spain, the midfielder was able to become a naturalized citizen and play for the Spanish national team. The former player was discovered by Barcelona and had spells at Bayern Munich and Liverpool, the last club he played for. Throughout his career, Thiago played 487 games and scored 48 goals, in addition to being a two-time Champions League winner.
