Grandmaster Dies During Chess Championship Game

NDTV: 50-year-old Bangladeshi chess player Rahman dies during championship game

Bangladeshi grandmaster Ziaur Rahman has died during a game at the national chess championship, Indian television channel NDTV reported.

During the game, 50-year-old Rahman became ill and lost consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death from a stroke.

Rahman has won the Bangladesh Championship on multiple occasions.

Earlier, the 1980 Moscow Olympic champion in equestrian sports Nikolai Korolkov died at the age of 77. The causes of the former athlete’s death are not specified.

In April, young Russian volleyball player and candidate for master of sports Arina Mikhaylina died at the age of 21. The girl’s body was found near the MPEI dormitory building on 1st Sinichkina Street in southeast Moscow. The nature of the injuries suggested that the athlete had attempted suicide.
