The Russian Wrestling Federation explained its refusal to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games

The FSBR stated that wrestlers from the Russian Federation do not accept the unsportsmanlike principle of selection for the Olympic Games

The Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) explained the refusal of the national team to participate in the Olympic Games (OG) in Paris. The statement was published on the organization’s website.

They noted that the Russian side does not accept the unsportsmanlike principle of selection for the Games. “The athletes and coaches of the Russian national teams in freestyle, women’s and Greco-Roman wrestling will not follow the lead of politicians and will not allow the spirit of the Russian team to be broken,” the statement said.

The FSBR emphasized that the status of the Olympics for the wrestling world is now in question. “Wrestling competitions without Russian athletes will be incomplete, and the champions will not receive satisfaction from winning the Olympic tournament,” the FSBR stated.

The refusal of Russian wrestlers to participate in the 2024 Games became known earlier on Saturday, July 6. Ten representatives of this sport from Russia were invited to the Games, seven of whom were required to be suspended from competition by the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine.

The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians are allowed to compete as individual neutral athletes.
