Liptovsky Mikulas authorities have banned Russian rowers from competing in the World Championships
The authorities of the Slovak city of Liptovsky Mikulas have banned Russian athletes from competing in the junior and youth world championships in canoe slalom. This was reported to TASS by the head coach of the Russian team, Maxim Obraztsov.
According to him, the Slovak Canoe Slalom Federation was in favor of the Russians’ participation, but the mayor’s office was against it. “Our athletes, of course, were a little upset about not being allowed to compete, but we have a fairly busy internal calendar,” Obraztsov said.
The tournament runs from July 2 to 7. Before its start, 11 Russians received neutral status to participate in international competitions.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians are allowed to compete as individual neutral athletes. There are no Russian rowers among the admitted athletes.
