Mbappe says he told Deschamps he wasn’t feeling well before being substituted in Euro game
France captain Kylian Mbappe has revealed details of a conversation he had with head coach Didier Deschamps before being substituted in the quarter-final match of the European Football Championship against Portugal. His words are quoted by Marca.
“I told him I felt bad, that I was too tired. After that I was substituted,” Mbappe said. He added that he spoke to the specialist for the first time after the end of normal time, and then they decided that the player would remain in the game.
Mbappe was substituted between two overtimes. In the second half of the game, the Frenchman was hit in the protective mask by a ball, after which he received medical assistance. The Frenchman needs a mask after he broke his nose in the first round of the Euro.
The game between the French and the Portuguese took place on July 5. The teams did not score any goals in the regular and extra time, and in the penalty shootout the French team was more accurate, reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.
