Jurgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers criticize Premier League calendar

the technicians of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, e do Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers, criticized the game schedule in England during the end-of-year festivities, on the eve of the confrontation between the two teams for the 20th round of the Premier League.

Klopp told a news conference that teams should not be forced to play two games within two days of Dec. 26-28.

“The situation shouldn’t be like this. We should be able to talk about it every year”, declared the German coach.

“It’s tradition and we want to play the day after Christmas. We could have done it this year and without any problems,” he added, referring to the match between Leeds and Liverpool scheduled for Sunday, postponed due to covid-19 cases in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

“But playing on the 26th and then on the 28th isn’t right, I say it because it’s true and I think we can find solutions. It’s not that difficult to play football in a slightly different way. On the 26th and 29th, what would be the problem?”, he asked.

For this duel away from home with Leicester, the Reds, English runners-up to six points from first place Manchester City, will feature Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcântara and Curtis Jones, all recovered from covid-19.

The year-end round was also criticized by Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers, a day after his team’s loss to the Citizens, for 6 a 3.

“It’s a ridiculous schedule and everyone knows it. The players are not fully recovered within 72 hours after the game”, he highlighted.
