UEFA disqualify Demiral and Bellingham for gestures at Euro 2024
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has disqualified two players for making gestures at Euro 2024. This was reported on the organization’s website.
Turkey’s Merih Demiral has been banned for two matches for making a gesture associated with Turkish ultra-nationalists in the last 16. He will miss the quarter-final against the Netherlands and, if he advances, the Euro semi-finals.
England footballer Jude Bellingham has been given a one-match suspended ban. The decision does not come into effect immediately and is subject to a one-year probationary period. The player was punished for making an obscene gesture in the round of 16 match against Slovakia.
The 2024 European Championship will last until July 14. The tournament is taking place in ten cities in Germany.
