After failed deal for Fabrício Bruno, West Ham signs new defender

After defender Fabrício Bruno rejected a move from Flamengo to West Ham, the English club has agreed a new central defender. Wolverhampton Wanderers accepted, this Thursday, a proposal from the ‘Hammers’ for Englishman Max Kilman, in a deal valued at 40 million pounds (around R$ 280 million), according to the Sky Sports.

The main reason for West Ham’s pursuit of Kilman is that the team’s new manager, Julen Lopetegui, worked with the defender during his time in charge of Wolves, from 2022 to 2023. There, Lopetegui even made Kilman the team captain, a role he had been playing until last season.

This was West Ham’s second bid for the 27-year-old, having had a £25 million bid rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

West Ham’s defence was one of their biggest concerns last season, particularly due to the fluctuations in their starting centre-back pairing of Aguerd and Zouma. The London club are expected to look for another centre-back in this transfer window, with Frenchman Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice the main target.

Kilman had recently renewed with Wolverhampton until 2028. The club had previously rejected offers from Napoli and Newcastle, but for a lower value than that presented by the Hammers.
