GM MacLellan: Washington Strengthened to Make Life Easier for Ovechkin
Washington Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan said that the team’s strengthening has made life easier for captain Alexander Ovechkin, as quoted by ESPN.
According to MacLellan, the team was aware of the need to improve, including for Ovechkin. “There was a lot of pressure on Ovi to perform last year because we lacked depth in that area, so hopefully this year he’s got more support here and the team is better overall,” he said.
Ovechkin, 38, is second on the list of all-time leading scorers in the National Hockey League (NHL). He has 853 goals in regular seasons. The record for this indicator belongs to Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who has 894 goals.
Ovechkin has been playing in the NHL since 2005, and has played for Washington throughout his overseas career. In 2018, he and the team won the Stanley Cup.
