Türkiye beats Austria 1-2 in a thrilling qualifying match and is now in the quarterfinals

Türkiye has eliminated Austria in the round of 16 of the European Championship of 2024 that is being played in Germany, by winning by 1-2 in the qualifying round played by both teams on Tuesday night in Leipzig, and, in this way, has qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition. Merih Demiralin the first and 59th minutes of play, scored both of Turkey’s goals, while Michael Gregoritschin the 66th minute, scored the goal for Austria.
It was a quality and vibrant match, in which three players stood out above all: on the one hand, Demiralthe Turkish defender who, with his success in the opponent’s area, has scored both of his team’s goals; on the other hand, Arda Gülerprecise and skilled in corner kicks, has made possible those two goals by Demiral, which have come from two corner kicks; and, no less important, it is fair to highlight the spectacular save he has made Mert Günokthe Turkish goalkeeper, in extra time, faced a header from Baumgartner, which seemed to mean 2-2 and extra time.
With this result, Turkey has qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Championship, which have already been fully defined: On Friday 5 July, the qualifiers will be Spain-Germany at 18:00 and Portugal-France at 21:00; on Saturday 6 July, the qualifiers will be England-Switzerland (18:00) and Netherlands-Turkey (21:00).
