Ronaldo says Euro 2024 will be his last
Portugal national team striker Cristiano Ronaldo said that Euro 2024 in Germany will be the last continental championship in his career. The words of the national team star are quoted by A Bola.
“I’ve never been afraid to tackle things head-on and giving up is something you’ll never see from me. But this is definitely my last Euro,” Ronaldo said.
Before that, the Portuguese forward burst into tears after a missed penalty against Slovenia in extra time in the 1/8 final match of Euro 2024. In the 105th minute, the Portuguese earned a penalty. Ronaldo shot on target, but Slovenian Jan Oblak parried the shot. The Portuguese team later won the penalty shootout.
Portugal came out of the group in first place at the current Euro, having scored six points in three matches. The Slovenians in their quartet came in third with three points. Portugal will play France in the quarter-finals.
The Portuguese national team became European champions in 2016. Slovenia has never won the tournament.
