Since 2017, Atlético de Madrid has modernized its crest. The Spanish club changed the shape and position of the bear and strawberry tree, symbols of Madrid, in its emblem. However, a vote among members held in June 2023 determined that from this Monday, July 1, 2024, Atlético would return to using the old crest.

In the modern emblem, adopted in the 2017/18 season, the Madrid bear was facing right, while in the shield before 2017, the animal was facing left. Another change was the strawberry tree, which was now in the center of the shield. The color yellow was no longer present in the modernization of the emblem.
The change made seven years ago was not well received by a large part of the fans. Many used social media with the hashtag #QueVolteNossoEscudo asking for the return of the traditional emblem. The change occurred at the same time that the club moved from the Vicente Calderón stadium to the Metropolitano.
At the time, names like Diego Simeone and Griezmann used their social networks to express their preference for the traditional crest, used since the 1960s. Now, Atlético de Madrid is working to ensure that the traditional crest is once again displayed on physical media (stadium, Academy grounds, signage), virtual environments and third-party media.
