England qualified for the quarter-finals of the Euro-2024 by achieving a dramatic comeback victory over Slovakia 2-1 in extra time, this Sunday (30) in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
“This is testament to the motivation and attitude of this team. For a moment it looked like it wasn’t going to happen, but we didn’t give up. And then Jude did what Jude does. What an incredible goal!” celebrated captain Harry Kane.
The players led by coach Gareth Southgate managed to equalize with a goal in added time and took the decision to extra time.
Ivan Schranz had put the Slovaks ahead in the 25th minute and, with a solid defense, they maintained the advantage until Jude Bellingham (90’+5) saved his team from elimination, with a stunning bicycle kick goal.
At the beginning of extra time, Harry Kane scored the winning goal, taking England to the quarter-finals, where they will face Switzerland, next Saturday, in Düsseldorf.
Bellingham had already been decisive for England by scoring the only goal in the opening match, the 1-0 victory over Serbia.
