Minsk Dynamo to sign Canadian hockey player Dube accused of rape
Minsk Dynamo has reached an agreement to sign a contract with Canadian forward Dillon Dube. This was reported on the website of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) team.
Details of the agreement are not disclosed. Previously, the 25-year-old forward played for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League (NHL). He also has gold at the 2018 World Junior Championship (WJC) as part of Team Canada.
Dynamo General Director Artem Karkotsky noted that the club is aware of the situation with the player being accused of rape. He emphasized that Dube has not pleaded guilty, is not hiding from the authorities and is taking part in the hearings in the case. “Since the case is at the trial stage, and also guided by the presumption of innocence, the club refrains from further comments on this issue,” the functionary added.
On February 5, 2024, trial began against five Canadian youth national team players, including Dube. They are accused of sexual violence during the 2018 World Cup. Hockey Canada said athletes will be prohibited from playing, coaching, refereeing or volunteering in the organization’s programs until the appeal process is completed.
