The Italian Football Federation confirmed this Sunday the continuity of Luciano Spalletti as coach of the national team, eliminated this Saturday from the European Championship after losing 2-0 to Switzerland, in the round of 16.
“We maintain our confidence in Luciano Spalletti. He must continue his work,” Gabriele Gravina, president of the Federation, told the press at a press conference at the team’s training center in Iserlohn.
“We are all responsible: the managers, the players, the coaches… This is a multi-year project and it seems unthinkable to abandon it after eight months,” argued the Italian football manager.
“There are things that need to change and correct. We have to do a deep reflection. But there is only one way to overcome this situation: through work”, he added.

Despite their status as defending champions, Italy have had a disappointing showing at Euro 2024, having won just one match (2-1 against Albania), drawn in the dying moments with Croatia and suffered two defeats in which they were clearly outclassed by Switzerland and Spain.
“We failed because of the choice I made for the team and my way of leading it. It’s never the players’ fault,” Spalletti said on Saturday after the elimination, for which he said he felt “responsible”.
After a successful spell at Napoli, Spalletti, 65, took charge of the Italian national team in August last year, replacing Roberto Mancini.
Their record is seven wins, four draws and three defeats.
