Journalist Kurman about the conflict with Cherchesov: questions were asked in two languages
Journalist Nursultan Kurman spoke about a conflict with Russian coach Stanislav Cherchesov over a question in Kazakh. He is quoted by Sport24.
“We were asked to ask questions – there were many Kazakh-speaking and Russian-speaking journalists. Everyone asked Cherchesov the way they felt comfortable – the questions were in two languages. I decided to ask my question in Kazakh,” the journalist said. According to him, Cherchesov calmly answered the first two questions, but after the third he got angry and said that he should only be asked in Russian.
“I didn’t understand why he decided to ask questions in Kazakhstan in a language that was convenient for him. Our state language is Kazakh, and traditionally we ask questions in this language,” Kurman noted.
On June 28, information appeared that Cherchesov, who heads the Kazakhstan national team, had a conflict with one of the journalists after a question in Kazakh. “Why are you addressing me like that? Can I answer you in Ossetian?” the coach asked. After that, a post appeared on the Russian specialist’s social networks in which he said that he had started learning the Kazakh language.
Cherchesov’s appointment to the post of head coach of the Kazakhstan national team was announced in early June. The duration of the contract and its financial terms were not specified.
